Talkin' 'bout the Weather

A conversation that I was having with my "significant other" the other night got me thinking. Currently he is in England where it is summer and the weather is fairly agreeable. Here however, the weather is not, it is cold, windy and wet and we were having quite the animated msn conversation about how we both enjoyed storms. After logging off msn and finishing this conversation, I remembered that thread on MOFFIA by the title of "And the weather is..." where we would simply state what the weather was like in each post. I remember someone wondering why we were doing this, to which someone else replied that it was clearly because we were all still on our first date together. I thought that this was a fairly solid reasoning at the time and it makes sense that no one posts on that thread too much anymore, it obviously means that all of us at MOFFIA have progressed in our relationships with each other. However, concerning me and my boyfriend, we have been dating since the end of May and still we talk about the weather. So, my dear readers, what does this mean? Is it that Andrew and I are still on our first date? Is our relationship ever going to progress or are we simply going to continue talking about how he prefers overcast weather and I prefer sun? Should I take this as a sign and end the relationship before we're old and grey and are still talking about how we both like staying inside during storms?

Of course, I'm kidding. I've just noticed that people, in general, are so obsessed with the weather. Last year, our Literature teacher, who was originally from England said how anytime it was sunny there everyone would rush outside and have fun in the good weather, because they didn't have that much clement weather, unlike here in Perth where we have an abundance of sun and nice weather. People here don't have to spend all day outside when there's sun because there is generally going to be good weather tomorrow and the next day too. On the flip side, whenever there's the slightest hint of rain or bad weather in Perth everyone becomes a hermit and starts complaining about the rain and cold. We just can't understand why water would fall from the sky and preventing us to all that stuff we could do when the weather was fine. It's pretty hilarious, watching everybody make a big deal about the rain and acting like it's below zero degrees when it's barely below 20.

It's interesting to think that even with the advent of airconditioning, cars, heating etc. our lives are still very dependant on the weather, the climate still determines our social activites, whether or not we are more likely to have a house party rather than go out or when to schedule a wedding. Especially here in Perth when we basically go into some form of withdrawal at first sight of rain. XD

So, how's the weather been??

Are you guys STILL discussing Civil War?

Last weekend was pretty epic and exhausting at the same time, five parties in four days is fairly insane plus work and a boyfriend leaving for for england for four weeks plus trying to find a pair of shoes (I didn't find any btw). Each party was pretty enjoyable, kudos goes to all those that were part of the organisng process of each one. Oh and a note to everyone who has never had a dressing gown/bath robe themed party, it is a MUST. Especially if it is slightly chilly and the party is outside, there is two things that can be certain about such a party. A) The amount of people dressed in the theme will be higher at any other themed party B) All those wearing dressing gowns, will wear them the entire night and not be cold despite the weather conditions. Plus it creates a relaxed atmosphere, and how can you NOT have a party with such a cool theme.

In other news, I'm thinking of starting a Arts course at the university I originally was going to go to at the beginnning of the year. Ultimately, it's not really what I want to do nor at the place I want to go to, but, then again, I don't really know what I want to do and this is probably a good opportunity to do something different, it gives me something to do. I'm not going to get anymore shifts at work and I don't want to quit my job yet, because it'll be a pain in the ass to find another one.

Lastly, as I mentioned my "boyfriend", which I put in quotation in NOT because I don't want to be his girlfriend but because I'm not sure where our relationship is as yet. Anyway, he's away in the UK at the moment so I don't have much contact with him and won't until he comes back in just over 3 weeks time. Which kinda sucks. But, oh well.

I think that's pretty much everything that going on in my life right now. Hope all my readers are well =). Oh and sorry I didn't make it to your birthday party on the weekend Lindsay! I was just to busy and no one could give me a lift to Toronto! =P

Today's blog title is a reference to a conversation I was having with a Law student about being a twin (he is also a twin), which then progressed into a detailed discussion about Civil War in the Middle East.

It seemed like an appropriate time...

As I'm sitting here procrastinating going to sleep/tidying my room so it can be livable again, seriously, I don't think my room has been this messy in a very, VERY long time. I like to view it as a representation of my life at the moment, but we won't dwell on that at this point. Instead, we will continue with a very balanced, very mearsured description of my life at this point.

To put it simply, I AM SO BUSY. I have five 18th birthday parties this weekend (starting on Thursday) and I haven't a thing to wear. I need one more outfit, a pair of shoes, plus accessories and I need a coat/jacket to keep me warm. The weather's been quite cold lately and I always seem to be cold. Plus I have a boyfriend who is going away to England for a month on Saturday, so I have to find time to see him before then, plus fit in the three parties before Saturday, plus work plus other stuff.

How did I get so busy?? I don't understand. I can achieve what seems like so little in a week but I always seem to be on edge, needing to do stuff. I guess it's because sometimes it seems you have very little control over your own life. Now I am, without a doubt, busy. I guess most of the stuff I'm busy with is good stuff.

In other news, Lindsay is 18! Happy Birthday, Lindsay! You need to come down to Aus where we can go clubbing and then discuss how shite going clubbing is. =P

You've just been Perth-ed!

Blogging is difficult. You spend ages trying to make your day to day activities into something that is interesting for the masses to read. It's hard when all you've done that day is make name labels, stuck the name labels on folders and inserted a business card into aforementioned folders.

See? I tried to make that interesting but even then that took up all of three lines. I told you it was hard. I know I should try and blog more, it would give me something constructive to do but I just can't be bothered trying to make my life sound interesting. However, I will try. How? You ask. With BULLET POINTS (and a vague title)! That's how!

Cool/Funny/Ironic Things That Have Happened Lately

  • I bought a bag with Elmo on it. Well, it's probably not an official "Seasame Street" Elmo as I bought it cheaply from an "Asian" clothing shop and it has no related insignia on it, so technically it's just a cartoon character that bears a striking resemblence to Elmo.
  • I watched Howl's Moving Castle for the first time. It was really good. You should watch it too, if you haven't already and if you have seen it, did you like it?
  • I've been invited to 5 18th's for next weekend. It's slightly insane. But I can't wait! =P
  • Johnny Durham's new buttons/badges. They are ridiculously cute. http://johnnydurham.bigcartel.com/product/button-pack-two

And finally, I was once more reminded how small my city is by running into a person who I kind of vaguely knew of in high school but now I know better because a lot of my friends/my sister's friends from uni know him also, twice in two days. Once in the city centre when I went to get my Elmo bag on Tuesday and again on Wednesday when I was going to my friends house on the train. This might not sound like much, but if you knew the situation/history, you would find it hilarious too.

Did I succeed? Did you find that interesting? I hope it wasn't to dull.

Star Trekking Across the Universe

I saw Star Trek the other day. On Friday, actually. I quite enjoyed it, I thought it was entertaining and kept the spirit of Star Trek but wasn't nearly as cheesy as the older ones. I liked all the characters and I thought it was well done visually. I was also fairly impressed with the storyline as it turned out to be a solid, stand alone narrative and not something that merely served to cover all the in jokes from the previous Star Trek films/tv series. Yes, there was time travel and an alternate universe, but get over it people, it's sci-fi. That's what they do. Has anyone else seen it? What did you guys think?

It was quite an enjoyable evening all round, even though technically I wasn't supposed to be out, seeing as mum was away and she doesn't want us going out at night when she's away BUT I didn't know this when I organised it and I didn't have the heart to ditch the guy I was going with for such a petty reason. I mean, she'll never know (unless she reads this blog! But she won't do that) and I didn't die/get mugged or raped, so that's good.

We went for ice-cream afterwards and I discovered the wonders of hot, chocolate fudge with ice-cream and then we went to Kings Park which is a national park on Mt Eliza the hill that overlooks the city and the river. It was very pretty at night time.

Apart from all that lovely stuff, I am also stressing about some school/uni stuff. Why can't anything just be easy?

Live Long and Prosper =P
